Program Overview
CFHPE operates several complementary programs, each addressing different aspects of our mission to improve public understanding of homelessness and poverty. These programs are designed to work together as an ecosystem of resources that address both immediate needs and deeper understanding.
All of our programs share these core values:
- Accessibility: Mobile-first design, plain language, and no barriers to access
- Evidence-based: Content grounded in research and lived experience
- Dignity-centered: Respecting the humanity of people experiencing housing insecurity and poverty
- Visual consistency: Building trust through professional, cohesive presentation
- Practical utility: Designed to be genuinely useful for target audiences
GoFind.help
Program Overview
GoFind.help is a direct-service public program operated by the Center for Housing and Poverty Education (CFHPE). It helps people locate essential social services quickly and intuitively, with an initial focus on the Greater Houston area.
The program was created in response to the fragmentation and usability challenges common in social service directories. Many existing tools are overly complex, outdated, or difficult to navigate—particularly for individuals experiencing housing instability or crisis. GoFind.help prioritizes clarity, speed, and ease of use.
Problem Statement
In Greater Houston, thousands of individuals and families rely on nonprofit, faith-based, and government services for housing, food, healthcare, and crisis support. While many services exist, they are often difficult to find or understand. Barriers include inconsistent information, overwhelming interfaces, and lack of local relevance.
These barriers disproportionately affect people already under stress, limiting access to help at critical moments.
Program Activities
GoFind.help provides:
- A streamlined, web-based resource discovery experience
- Location-specific filtering for Greater Houston services
- Plain-language descriptions designed for public use
- Mobile-first access without accounts or forms
The program intentionally avoids unnecessary features that increase cognitive load or exclude users.
Target Population
- Individuals experiencing housing instability or homelessness
- Low-income households seeking assistance
- Case workers, outreach teams, and community advocates
- Family members and caregivers seeking help for others
Unhomed.info
Program Overview
Unhomed.info is a public education program of the Center for Housing and Poverty Education (CFHPE). Its purpose is to increase understanding of homelessness through accessible, evidence-informed educational content.
The program focuses on shifting public perception by addressing common myths, explaining pathways into homelessness, and centering dignity and humanity.
Problem Statement
Public discourse around homelessness is often shaped by misinformation, stigma, and oversimplification. These narratives influence policy decisions, community responses, and public attitudes, often to the detriment of people experiencing homelessness.
In Greater Houston, these misconceptions hinder effective solutions and reduce community empathy.
Program Activities
Unhomed.info provides:
- Educational articles explaining homelessness in plain language
- Myth-busting content grounded in research and lived experience
- Contextual explanations of housing instability
- Public-facing resources designed for general audiences
Target Population
- Members of the general public
- Students and educators
- Community leaders and volunteers
- Local stakeholders seeking accurate information
SystemsofPoverty.info
Program Overview
SystemsofPoverty.info is an educational program operated by the Center for Housing and Poverty Education (CFHPE). It focuses on explaining the systems, policies, and historical factors that contribute to poverty.
The program is designed to complement direct service efforts by improving public literacy around systemic causes and long-term solutions.
Problem Statement
Poverty is frequently framed as an individual failure rather than a systemic outcome. This framing obscures the roles of policy, labor markets, housing systems, education, and historical inequities.
In the Greater Houston area—one of the most economically diverse regions in the country—these systems are especially visible yet poorly understood.
Program Activities
SystemsofPoverty.info provides:
- Educational articles on structural drivers of poverty
- Clear explanations of policy and economic systems
- Contextual analysis accessible to non-experts
- Content designed for reuse in educational settings
Target Population
- Students and educators
- Policymakers and civic leaders
- Journalists and advocates
- Engaged members of the public
